Before I could get into the groove of blogging every day for 21 days; the 21 days are up.
So, Jenni and I are still vegan; the children a little less so. Have we cheated? A little. There are some marginal animal products in granola bars and in some veggie burgers. But other than that I think we did well. I haven't eaten any cheese nor any eggs.

Some corn and apple sauce on the side. It wasn't fancy, but pretty good. We've been getting tomatoes in cartons. They are from Colavita. I don't know; it does seem like they taste better. I ran to the store over lunch yesterday and picked up some fresh fruit and jam. So I had a pb&j for lunch.Bradhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01590130887141007360noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6834021848661135848.post-65965869439497773002014-01-08T15:16:00.002-06:002014-01-08T15:16:52.595-06:00Day 9 - 11Well, the vegan challenge is truly getting tested. What with 2 irritable 9 year olds, a mad puppy, a new job for Jenni and back to work for me. It is now very inconvenient to be a vegan and this is where things go pear shaped for us. Still, I walked right past that sheet cake on 3 this morning. 'Congratulations on 25 years,' be damned!
Jenni made a great Pad Thai on day 6, which Bradhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01590130887141007360noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6834021848661135848.post-86988118444149955062014-01-06T10:06:00.001-06:002014-01-07T09:21:08.837-06:00Day 6 - 9 It is so cold here today! It is -17 Fahrenheit with a wind chill of -45. Everything is closed down: schools, businesses, mine included, roads. You'd think being shut in a house for three days would've provided more of an impetus to post, but it didn't. Regardless, I think we've done a pretty good job of staying vegan the last few days. There's been a little cheating. Yesterday started with a bowl of grapenuts, juice and a cup of coffee from the Coffee Hound after I got to work. It is ridiculously cold and snowy here in Bloomington this week with a high of 0 F expected on Monday. I had vegan soup bowl yesterday for lunch, just some udon noodles and miso, but it was warm. Unfortunately it didn't really fill me up for the afternoon. I walked down to the Bradhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01590130887141007360noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6834021848661135848.post-68697093052124473882014-01-02T08:41:00.002-06:002014-01-03T18:18:43.359-06:00Day 4 - January 1st 2014I woke up feeling a bit under the weather yesterday morning, imagine that? I'd stayed up with Harry to watch the ball drop in New York and had one more glass of whiskey. He had cheese and crackers and I contented myself with some rosemary bread with a bit of olive oil. I really didn't need that last glass of whiskey, but I don't remember it bothering me at the time.
I decided to start the day Bradhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01590130887141007360noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6834021848661135848.post-71336350706558768862014-01-01T09:54:00.001-06:002014-01-01T09:54:33.303-06:00Round Tower - Inside- Copenhagen Denmark

Yesterday was a good day for the challenge, though I drank more scotch than I needed to last night. Van's waffles and a cup of coffee for breakfast and a green apple for a snack midmorning. There wasn't much happening at work so I was dying for something to snack by lunchtime. I walked down to Sugar Momma's bakery to Bradhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01590130887141007360noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6834021848661135848.post-84568886103777468132013-12-31T10:03:00.003-06:002013-12-31T10:03:57.051-06:00Boston, MA
Brrr! It was a cold walk along the Fish Pier in Boston. The pubs were great! I love good whiskey and good atmosphere and Boston had that in abundance. They looked at me funny when I asked if they had anything besides fish at the No Name Restaurant, but I did enjoy their french fries. There was a decent Mexican restaurant on the waterfront called Temazcal. It didn't get very good Bradhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01590130887141007360noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6834021848661135848.post-23352812841258589322013-12-31T09:41:00.002-06:002013-12-31T09:50:02.087-06:00Day 2 - December 30Yesterday proved to be a pretty easy day. But I suppose things usually are when you're all revved up and focusing on them. The hard part is when you're living your life focused on other things and it's far less convenient.
I started with a bowl of cereal with almond milk and a piece of toast. I like bread. December 29 - Sat down with our cookbooks and cruised a number of blogs, including Pinterest to find some recipes. We used to always make our menu on Sunday, so it was time to start this habit again. I particularly liked Oh She Glows. I haven't used the blog in some time. With Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and all the other social tools, there hasn't been a reason to use it. Jenni and I have been so busy with work and with the boys that there hasn't been much to post either. But since we last used the blog I completed chemotherapy for stage III colon cancer. A view of the Bay Bridge from where I was working in October. I had a tough time finding vegetarian food in the port area, but I did get some decent dishes from the company I was working with. On day two there was a little tray that had a toothpick and a flag that said, "Vegetarian." A pleasant surprise.

I always find myself on canals with the old folks. I really don't know why. I get sea sick at the drop of a hat. This was pretty gentle though. This boat took us around some gentrified army barracks, past the Opera House and out to the Little Mermaid.

Probably my favorite picture of the Skane countryside. My ancestors would've worked in fields of wheat just like this. When we were celebrating Midsomer with our relatives in Rydsgard we saw people gathering these red poppies to make flower arrangements to decorate the maypole.

The streets of Malmo, Sweden. This was the final destination of our Scandinavian summer trip. It was the final stop for my great-grandparents prior to coming to America. It's a port city so it has that feel to it. We walked through the squares in the old town, lots of foot traffic, with a very diverse population.

Malmohus is Malmo's medieval fortress. The castle, now a museum, has been been guarding the Oresund since the 15th century. We spent an afternoon walking through the art galleries and various exhibits with our boys. I found the modern art equally as scarey as the exhibits showing life in the castle when it served as a prison.

Last month I took our boys (both eight) on an overnight trip to the Field Museum in Chicago. It was part of a program the museum sponsors titled Dozin' with the Dinos. The program allows groups and families with children ages 6-12 to explore the museum after hours. This was the first 'lock-in' type of activity we've done. We loved it.
